As we look toward the future, we have an incredible opportunity—and responsibility—to ensure our schools reflect these same strengths, preparing every young Mainer to thrive in a world that is rapidly evolving.
At MOXIE, we believe that every student, no matter their background, deserves a learning experience that is personal, purposeful, and powerfully connected to their community. Maine’s public education system has long been a source of strength, yet it also must evolve to address today’s realities: an increasingly diverse student population, growing family mobility, widening opportunity gaps, and a rapidly changing workforce and civic landscape. Today, too many of our kids are struggling to find schools that truly meet them where they are. We see a Maine where no student feels left behind, where every learner has the tools, confidence, and opportunities to forge their own path, and where schools serve as engines of both personal and statewide prosperity.
MOXIE Public Schools is designed to meet these challenges and opportunities head-on. Our proposed 6-12th grade school will leverage the flexibility of Maine’s charter model to create a highly personalized, community-connected learning environment. We will build an educational experience that:
Ensures every student is seen, known, and supported through small, relationship-driven advisories and a whole-child approach to learning.
Connects students to real-world opportunities by partnering with businesses, nonprofits, and higher education institutions, allowing learners to earn credentials, internships, and college credits before they graduate.
Embraces diversity and mobility and designs for the future by offering cross-community enrollment, flexible learning pathways, and culturally responsive support to ensure that no student falls through the cracks—no matter where they come from or where they may move.
This school is about meeting today’s challenges and crafting a future where every Maine student has the confidence, skills, and sense of belonging to step forward with purpose. Working with others, we’ll design a system that meets all learners where they are, gives them real agency in their learning, and prepares them not just to succeed individually, but to contribute meaningfully to our state’s future.
